Overview
Barber X is a mobile booking app designed to eliminate waiting times in Egyptian barbershops. I conducted on-site research, observed real customer behavior, and redesigned the booking flow to allow appointments in under 30 seconds. The app introduced OTP login, guided booking, and flexible payments, making it accessible even to non-technical users.
The Challenge
Long waiting times in barbershops were a common frustration in Egypt. The goal was to design a mobile app that allowed users to:
Book appointments in under 30 seconds
Discover and save nearby barbers
Choose home service or salon visits
Pay with cash or card
Research & Insights
We observed customers inside a barbershop to understand their struggles. Key findings:
Many users had limited literacy → simplified login with phone + OTP.
Users expected speed → auto-login directly to booking.
Clear service selection first to avoid booking mistakes.
Design Solution
We focused on clarity and speed:
Guided booking flow with closest time suggested.
Simple toggle between cash and card payment.
Visual UI with icons and short labels for accessibility.
The Result
The redesigned flow made booking seamless for everyone, even first-time users.
Reduced steps from 6 to 3
Users completed bookings in less than 30 seconds
Positive feedback across a wide age range
